Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Fahrer Fernando Alonso beendete den Großen Preis der Türkei in Istanbul mit dem dritten Platz, der seinen 45. Podiumplatz in seinem 100. Rennen bedeutet. Nach 58 Runden, 309,396 Kilometer und einer Gesamtrennenzeit von 1h26m42.161 überquerte Fernando 26.1 Sekunden hinter Sieger Felipe Massa die Ziellinie. Lewis fiel wegen einem Reifenschaden in Runde 43, dessen Ursache noch erforscht wird, auf den fünften Platz zurück. Beide Fahrer waren auf Zwei-Stop-Strategien. Lewis kam in den Runden 20 (9.4 Sekunden) und 43 (10.2 Sekunden) herein. Fernando machte seine Boxenstops in den Runden 18 (9.1 Sekunden) und 43 (6.6 Sekunden). Lewis behält seine Führung in der Fahrerwertung mit 84 Punkten bei, die von Fernando auf Rang 2 mit 79 Punkten verfolgt wird. Nach 12 von 17 Rennen behielt Vodafone McLaren Mercedes die Führung in der Konstrukteurswertung mit 148 Punkten vor Ferrari auf 137 bei.

Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver Fernando Alonso finished the Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul in third place achieving his 45th podium finish in his 100th Grand Prix. After 58 laps, 309.396 km and a total race time of 1h26m42.161, Fernando came home 26.1 seconds behind winner Felipe Massa. Lewis suffered from a puncture to his front right tyre on lap 43, the cause of which is still being investigated and ended up fifth. Both drivers were on two-stop strategies. Lewis pitted on laps 20 (9.4 seconds) and 43 (10.2 seconds). Fernando made his pitstops on laps 18 (9.1 seconds) and 43 (6.6 seconds). Lewis maintains his lead in the Drivers’ Championship with 84 points followed by Fernando in second position with 79 points. After 12 out of 17 races, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes maintained the lead in the Constructors' table with 148 points ahead of Ferrari on 137.

"Es war nicht der Plan, am Start zwei Plätze zu verlieren und also war mein Rennen fast gelaufen, als ich die erste Kurve auf dem 6. Platz fuhr. Ich folgte Nick Heidfeld 17 Runden, und es war nicht möglich, ihn zu überholen. Glücklicherweise waren wir in der Lage, dies im ersten Boxenstop zu tun und dann konnte mein Rennen wirklich beginnen. Leider war ich zu der Zeit 30 Sekunden zurück, also war der dritte Platz ein gutes Resultat. Nach Lewis Reifenschaden wurde mir vom Team gesagt, ich sollte aufpassen, um nicht auch einen Platten zu bekommen. Das machte meinem Rennen nicht mehr viel aus, da ich bereits ziemlich weit zurücklag."

"It was not the plan to lose two places at the start, and so my race was pretty much over when I came into the first corner in sixth place. I was following Nick Heidfeld for 17 laps at the start, and it was very difficult to overtake him. Fortunately we were able to do this in the first round of pitstops and that was when my race could really start. Unfortunately I was 30 seconds down at that point, so third was a good result considering. I was told by the team to take it easy after Lewis’s puncture to avoid the same thing happening to me, but as I was already quite far back it did not make too much of a difference to my race."

"Ein wenig unglücklich, aber doch machten wir eine gute Arbeit, und die Mannschaft war das ganze Wochenende fantastisch. Wir hatten die Geschwindigkeit der Ferraris, aber wenn du hinterher fährst, verlierst du ein wenig vom Abtrieb; wir waren nur gleichschnell. Ich sah, daß einige Spitzen vom Reifen wegflogen und daß er gerade beim Bremsen in Kurve neun platzte. Es war Glück, daß ich das Auto nicht in den Kies setzte und noch die Box erreichte, denn so habe ich am Ende glücklicherweise nur zwei Plätze verloren. Wir erzielten noch wichtige Punkte und ich bleibe in der Fahrerwertung mit fünf Punkten vorn, also ist es nicht ganz schlecht."

"A little bit unfortunate but still we did a good job, and the team was fantastic all weekend. We had the pace of the Ferraris, but when you are behind you lose a little bit of downforce; we were just matching them for most of the race. I saw some bits fly off the tyre and then it just blew on braking into Turn Nine. It was lucky that I didn’t put the car in the gravel and managed to control it back to the pits, as this meant that in the end I only lost two places. We still got some good points and I remain in the lead of the championship by five points, so it is not all bad.”

Beim Qualifying blockierte Fernando die Box, so daß Lewis keine Zeit mehr für eine schnelle Runde hatte.

In the qualifying Fernando blocked the pit, so Lewis had timeout for a fast lap.



Dafür wurde Fernando fünf Startplätze strafversetzt.

Fernando's penalty was grid six instead of pole position.

Lewis, der von der Pole Position startete, gewann 0.7 Sekunden vor Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari). Fernando wurde Vierter. Beide Fahrer waren mit Zwei-Stop-Strategien im Rennen. Lewis kam in den Rundn 19 (9.7seconds) und 50 herein (4.9 Sekunden), während Fernando in den Runden 17 (9.9 Sekunden) und 50 (7.0 Sekunden) stoppte. Lewis behielt die Führung in der Fahrerwertung mit 80 Punkten, Fernando folgt als Zweiter mit 73 Punkten. Vodafone McLaren Mercedes behielt die Führung in der Konstrukteurswertung mit 138 Punkten vor Ferrari mit 119. Es ist der 50. Sieg des Teams seit Beginn der McLaren und Mercedes-Benz Partnerschaft im Jahr 1995.

Lewis maintained the lead in the Drivers’ Championship with 80 points followed by Fernando in second position with 73 points. Vodafone McLaren Mercedes maintained the lead in the constructors' table with 138 points ahead of Ferrari on 119. This is the team’s 50th victory since the beginning of the McLaren and Mercedes-Benz partnership back in 1995.
